only cool kids get excited about new bedding for their dorms

Ever since I got my bedding for college, I've been super excited to go. A week or so ago my mom and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond because they had good deals on extra-long jersey sheets. The color choices were bright orange, bright red, bright green, hot pink, dark blue, light grey, or the aforementioned colors in thin stripes. I wasn't too keen on any of them, so I went with the obvious choice of hot pink. Why not pick the most obnoxious color?

Then I started thinking...lately I've been liking the color combination of pink and black, so wouldn't it be amazing if I got a black comforter? Exactly. Since the comforter choices at Beyond were lacking, we went to Target. I saw on one of the bedding displays a picture of a bed with a black and white comforter; it had silhoutes of big black flowers on a white background (part of the Swell line in case you're curious), but it was nowhere to be found on the display! Then my mom found a solid dark charcoal comforter. It was love at first sight. The color would go great with hot pink! It was dark enough to minimize the brightness yet light enough to not show every piece of lint! Of course we made the purchase.

So now I have my wicked hot bedding, and I'm super excited! Here's a little picture I just rendered on Paint to depict exactly how my bed will look.

Perfectly made with the blanket folded down to show the sheets. See, that's sarcasm because I never make my bed except for when friends come over and I attempt to smooth out the jumbles.

new look

Lately I've been trying to de-clutterize my room. I like the sparsity of loft apartments, so along with trying to make my room more sparse I'm making my diary more sparse too. I would like just a blank page, but that looked a little too boring. Someday I want to live in a loft. Or a studio apartment with just a mattress and a dresser. Maybe I'll upgrade to a bed and put a chair in too. That probably won't happen for a l o n g time because I have so much...stuff.

Anyway, new diary look, let's see how long this one stays. I'm also making it weblog, but that may not last long since it adds so much stuff to the page. And I'm not making it weblog to copy Kristina since she recently made hers weblog, I just like having a weblog like at xanga.

Now I'm off to remove more clutter from my room.

cornerstone!!!!!

Man, Cornerstone was so much fun. We got back on Monday, and I wish we were still there. Kristina and I met many fun people, who I wish lived in Chicago, and we saw many wonderful bands, who I wish played in Chicago more often.

Speaking of Chicago, on the last night of Cornerstone Kristina and I were standing outside Decapolis (because our tent was close to that stage) while bands were loading their equipment into their respective equipment holders, and we were stunned by the brightness of the stars. We were walking around with our necks craned toward the sky and repeatedly saying profound statements such as "woah" and "holy crap." For real, I've never paid attention when people tried to explain how bright stars were in the country because I thought our stars were sufficiently bright in Chicago, but boy was I blown away. The stars were bright white and the sky was jet black. There was no orange glow from the city, and there were no stars missing from the Big Dipper because they couldn't compete with the city light. Also, the sky actually looked like a dome, as if we were inside a planetarium. Wow, stars are cool.

As long as I'm talking about Cornerstone, I'll mention some of my favorite bands that I heard. This may be a long list (in no particular order): mewithoutYou, Ester Drang, Unwed Sailor, Reeve Hunter, Duvall, Anathallo, Aireline, Josh Caterer, the Pale, the Woods, Fletcher, Reels of White Softly Flow, Questions in Dialect, Relient K, Ethan Durelle, Switchfoot, As I Lay Dying, Bastian, Flatfoot 56, June in July (neighborhood pride!), Pedro the Lion, Sleeping at Last, Cool Hand Luke, and probably some that I'm forgetting. My biggest regret is not seeing the Chuck Norris Revolution. "Who would win in a fight--Chuck Norris or Gravity? ...Trick question, Chuck Norris is gravity!"

I want to go back. I'm already excited for next year.
